Project Info

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-004 Black to the front and back of the tray.
  3. Once shine is gone, apply 2 sloppy coats of EL-122 Malachite with the CB-604 #4 Soft Fan to the center rectangular portion of the tray. This does not need to be precise, just eyeball it (see the picture).
  4. While waiting for the center portion of the tray to dry, dip a CB-425 Oval Mop Brush into EL-121 Copper Adventurine, covering the bristles with glaze. Touch the side of the brush to the tray around the edge, depositing a ‘blob’ of color. Repeat around the rim of the tray, re-coating the brush each time. Each blob will be one thick coat of El-121 Copper Adventurine. While that dries, move to the next step.
  5. Pour some EL-120 Black Ice into the AC-220 Detailer Bottle. Use the bottle to drop puddles of EL-120 Black Ice onto the center of the tray, creating the ‘raindrops’.
  6. Once the Copper Adventurine blobs on the outer edge lose their shine, dip the CB-425 Oval Mop Brush into the EL-119 Burnished Steel and press the bristles over the outer half of the EL-121 Copper Adventurine blobs, as shown in the picture.
  7. Do not apply Clear Glaze.
  8. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.

Tips: For a fee-based class, add on three small dishes and market as a set. These can be bisque, painted to coordinate with the tray (have attendees paint dishes while waiting for other areas to dry).
