Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Trace on pattern using AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper and a Pencil.
  3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, double load with SC-16 CottonTail and SC-76 Cara-bein Blue to brush in the sky. Hold the SC-16 Cotton Tail side of the brush next to the horizon line, so that will be the lightest area of the sky. Criss-cross brushstrokes to give movement and shading to the sky. Add less white to the brush as you get away from the horizon line, so the sky will deepen in color. Brush right to the edge of the plate with the sky. One coat is sufficient without adding water to the brush.
  4. With a CB-312 #12 Flat Shader, apply SC-37 Ivory Tower to the house and side buildings. Apply SC-5 Tiger Tail to the roofs. Shade the darker side of the roof with SC-80 Basketball, and the other roof with some SC-75 Orange-A-Peel. Shade the left side of the house with thinned SC-5 Tiger Tail and shade under the roof with thinned SC-34 Down To Earth. Paint the door to the house with thinned SC-74 Hot Tamale.
  5. For the yellow rows in the front of the house, start with the palest yellow, SC-55 Yella Bout It. Using the CB-325 ¼" Angled Shader on the angled end, brush in the SC-55 Yella Bout It, adding SC-24 Dandelion to the brush (always brushing color away from the house). The next color to add is SC-5 Tiger Tail, then SC-25 Crackerjack Brown, and getting darker with SC-34 Down to Earth, and lastly SC-15 Tuxedo to the edge of the plate. Brush color with choppy strokes overlapping one color to the next, to give movement to the fields.
  6. Using a CB-112 #12 Shader, the green rows are painted the same as the yellow rows with this progression of color: SC-78 Lime Light, SC-27 Sour Apple, SC-26 Green Thumb, SC-39 Army Surplus, SC-63 Popeye's Favorite. Apply 1 coat of the color before making the choppy overlapping strokes.
  7. The fields to the left of the houses are rows of SC-24 Dandelion and SC-26 Green Thumb.
  8. Using a CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply SC-63 Popeye's Favorite to the tall shrubbery near the house. The small shrubs are SC-25 Crackerjack Brown and SC-5 Tiger Tail.
  9. Using a CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply SC-63 Popeye's Favorite to the foliage in the distance with patted brushstrokes adding SC-34 Down to Earth with some SC-5 Tiger Tail. Paint the foliage right to the edge of the plate.
  10. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, apply thin accent lines with SC-15 Tuxedo on the house and field.
  11. Tape off a ½" border with ½" masking tape. Thin SC-15 Tuxedo and apply with a single stroke using a CB-312 #12 Flat Shader. The transparent color will let the colors underneath show through.
  12. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of SC-15 Tuxedo to the back of the plate. Allow to dry.
  13. Apply S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing to the plate. Allow to dry.
  14. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
