Q
- How do Magic Metallics work?
A - Magic Metallics work just like the oxidation process in nature
- it just does it much faster. Oxidation is the result of metal getting
wet and being exposed to air.
Q
- What kind of surfaces can I use the Magic Metallics on?
A - Magic Metallics work on virtually any surface including wood,
ceramic, glass, Styrofoam, paper, wax, canvas and architectural surfaces.
Use to coordinate lamp shades, wall paper, metal stands, candle holders,
table tops, switch plate covers, mirrors and picture frames.
Q
- I can't get the Purple Tint to work. Am I doing something wrong?
A - The Purple Tint does not oxidize. It is used as a "tinting"
color to provide accents and color variety to your patina projects.
Q
- Why is Steel the only metallic that will rust?
A - Remember that Magic Metallics work just like the oxidation
process in nature - just faster. In nature, it is steel that rusts.
Because Magic Metallics are not a faux finish, the laws of nature apply.
Q
- What is a patina color supposed to look like? Mine just looks like
water.
A - These products are thin and depending upon which one you are
using, Patina products are either clear in the jar or a pale blue/green
color similar to the consistency and color of window cleaning products.
Keep in mind that this is not a faux finish, but an oxidizer that causes
the metal particles in the Metallic Finishes to rust or patina just
like they do in nature.
Q
- Help! I've got more Patina than I wanted. What can I do?
A - A little Patina goes a long way. If when dry, you find that
you got a little more patina than you want, wet a green grit pad and
gently rub over the surface. Either let it remain on the surface in
its thinned state or wipe off the excess with a cloth. You will need
to allow the surface to dry in order to see the true final color.
Q
- I don't like the way my piece turned out. Do I have to throw it away
and start over?
A - If you finish a piece and you don't like the look you've achieved,
all is not lost. Simply apply a coat of MM-502 Matte Sealer, let dry
and do it again!
Q
- If I'm working with a ceramic piece do I need to seal the inside?
A - On hollow ceramic bisque it is suggested that you apply one
coat of the Sealer with a large, flat brush and allow it to dry prior
to applying the Metallic color. Ceramic bisque is porous and will allow
moisture or humidity to enter from the inside of a hollow ceramic bisque
piece.
Q
- How can I tell when the Patina is dry?
A - Patinas are not dry until they are powdery-looking.
Q
- What is the difference between the Steel Metallic and the other Metallic
products?
A - Steel Metallic is the only Metallic Finish that will rust. It
will not develop a patina. The MM-305 Rapid Rust must be used to create
a rust finish on the Steel Metallic.
Q
- Are these products non-toxic?
A - All of the Magic Metallic products are non-toxic.
Q
- Can I mix Aluminum with other Metals?
A - It can be mixed with other metals (except Steel) as long as
Aluminum is the lesser metal. Discard any unused mixture. Do not
store Aluminum mixture in a closed jar. Do not use water based varnishes
or sealers over Aluminum as a chemical reaction will discolor the Aluminum
finish.
