What is Dimensional glaze?
DG-150 White Dimensional Glaze allows you to add a third
dimension to your ceramic decorating. This product is a non-flowing glaze
that stays where you put it. If applied very heavily, such as in dots
or build-up designs, it will not level out during firing but will retain
the same thickness and shape. This characteristic permits many exciting
possibilities in decorating.
How do I use Dimensional glaze?
Dimensional glaze may be used on greenware, bisque, on top of underglaze
colors. Mayco DG-150 White dimensional Glaze is packaged in a one ounce,
snip-tip squeeze bottle. Simply shake well, snip the tip ;and you are
ready to decorate. This unique bottle allows you to create shapes, lines,
dots, and other shapes quickly. For a broad line, cut tip on an angle.
It may be applied in many other ways including "chore-boy,"
sponge, pointed tool, eye dropper, squeeze bottle, brocade tools or a
Mayco brush. After firing, leave your piece as it is or glaze and refire.
What techniques should I follow?
Try Dimensional Glaze on Underglazes, Satin Mattes, Opaques and Stonewares.
This is particularly true where your design may consist of a series of
dots. If a large area is covered with it, there is a possibility that
gases evolving from the underlying glazed clay body during firing will
bubble through the Dimensional Glaze and leave pin holes or a mottled
appearance.
Are there special tips I should know to use DG-150?
Non-flowing glazes such as Clear, Matte Transparent or the Clear Satin
Mattes are best as they will not "melt-down" your raised design.
Matte Transparent should be applied thinly in order to avoid a cloudy
appearance after it is fired. When using Clear or Matte Transparent, you
need not wipe off your Dimensional Glaze design before refiring. If you
use colored glazes, rub excess glaze off the Dimensional Glaze surface.
What is UR-90 Under Red Bright Red?
UR-90 is not a regular underglaze. It is actually a stiff glaze that tolerates
a coat or two of clear or semitransparent glaze as a finish coating.
How do I use UR-90?
UR-90 should be applied on bisque only. Thus, a little planning is necessary
if they are to be used with regular underglazes. A typical process would
be to apply regular underglazes to greenware and bisque fire to cone 04.
Apply three good even coats of Under Red color, using a suitable size
soft Mayco Brush. After drying thoroughly, glaze the entire piece with
either Mayco's C-101 or C-105 Clear Glaze or other C-100 series colored
clear. When applying Clear Glaze over the unfired Under Reds do not brush
excessively over the under Reds, or they will smear. Refire at witness
cone 06-05. If you fire hotter than cone 05, you may get some movement
of the Under Reds.
What techniques should I use with UR-90?
All techniques used with the regular underglazes can be done with Under
Reds. An adequate application of color is a must for any technique you
choose. Under Reds are ideal when decorating over non-moving glazes. Simply
apply three even coats of Under Red over unfired glaze. A top coating
of clear glaze is not necessary when doing this technique.
Are there any helpful tips for using UR-90 Bright Red?
To obtain the best results, follow these suggestions: UR-90 shouldn't
be intermixed or blended with regular underglazes; the color will be destroyed.
Under Reds are not designed for greenware; apply to and fire with bisque
only. Avoid application of excessive amounts of Under Reds and Clear Glaze.
Layers have a tendency to flow slightly. Fire properly to witness cone
06-05. Due to incompatibility, Transparent Matte C-300 shouldn't be used
over the Under Reds.
Can I use UR-90 for dinnerware?
No. UR-90 is not suitable or recommended for food containers. Because
UR-90 contains lead and cadmium, it should be kept out of the reach of
children.

Specialty Glazes
UR-90 Bright Red and UG-151 Fire Engine Red
These underglazes are really not underglazes but very stiff glazes that
require a top coating of clear glaze to achieve a bright shiny quality.
These two colors must be applied to properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.
• Apply 3 to 4 even coats. Allow each coat to dry well between applications.
• These colors can not be intermixed with any other type of underglaze
product.
• These products are Semi-Opaque, allowing only dark colors to show
through.
• Apply one to two thin coats of a clear glaze on top of the unfired
product. The use
of BS-100 Brite Strokes Clear glaze will make both UR-90 and UG-151 food
safe.
• Glaze fire to shelf cone 06.
• These colors do not withstand high fire temperatures.
• Perfect for small spots of color in a design, such as fruit.
• Clean up with water.
Brite Strokes Clear Glaze
Characteristics:
This glaze was specifically developed to be used over Specialty Underglazes,
UR-90 Bright Red & UG-151 Fire Engine Red to promote the color stability
of the underlying color. It is applied over Specialty Glazes in order
to make them food safe.
Application:
Apply to properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque using a soft glaze brush
sized for the area. Apply two coats for proper glaze application.
Notes:
• This glaze may discolor regular underglaze colors. A test should
be made for
color stability.
• When decorating with the Specialty Glazes, the Brite Stroke Clear
glaze is
only applied to the area that is painted with the Specialty Glazes.
