Cobblestone Glazes

  • SG-201 Black Cobblestone

  • SG-202 White Cobblestone

Characteristics:

Cobblestone is a unique non-toxic textural glaze that forms a raised rectangular chip like texture.

Application:

  • Apply to properly fired shelf cone 04

  • Apply over any non-toxic glaze, fired or not. Works best over un-fired glaze

  • Apply 2 coats using a Soft Fan Brush

  • Pattern break-up is determined by the application direction of the brush stroke. Large break up heavier application, small breakup lighter application

  • If application is too light the cobblestone will not break up. Reapplying and touching up will not achieve a break up

  • Fire to shelf cone 06 or higher

Notes:

  • Application thickness, the drying time before firing, method and temperature of firing will have an effect on the final finish

  • Apply coats of cobblestone while the underlying glaze is still damp do not allow cobblestone to dry between coats

  • Handle the ware carefully as the dried Cobblestone has a tendency to flake off. Pieces of cobblestone that fall off may be reapplied to the ware using AC-302 Wax Resist

  • If cobblestone flakes off and you reapply cobblestone in that area this area will have a different break up pattern

  • A protective coating of AC-302 Wax Resist can be applied over the cobblestone while the cobblestone is still damp to help alleviate the flaking of the product

  • SG-202 White Cobblestone can be tinted with One Stroke or Stroke & Coat. Darker pigment colors work best. Always do a test firing. Too much Stroke & Coat color added will lessen the break up pattern

  • SG-202 White Cobblestone can be made into various colors by applying 1 coat of Stroke and Coat on top of the damp cobblestone.(heavy application of S&C can interfere with the break up)

  • SG-201 Black Cobblestone will not break up over Matte glazes. If Black Cobblestone is desired on Mattes use SG-202 and apply 1 coat of SC-15 to achieve this effect

  • Not recommended for food surface contact due to surface characteristics

  • Excellent for texture effects on frogs, turtles, etc.

  • Cobblestones can be applied using Mayco's Writer tip bottles AC-222/223 or spattered using Mayco's Spatter brush RB-150

Chalkboard Glazes

  • SG-101 Chalkboard Black

  • SG-102 Chalkboard Green

Characteristics:

Application:

  • Apply to properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque

  • Apply a minimum of 3 smooth even coats using a Soft Fan Brush

  • Apply in one direction to avoid streaks

  • Fire to shelf cone 06

  • A higher firing will result in a gloss finish

  • Stroke & Coat colors can be applied over the Chalkboard Glaze for design work

  • Can be sponged on for a textured finish

Glitter Glazes

  • SG-301 Glitter Glaze

Characteristics:

SG-301 Glitter Glaze is a non-toxic clear glaze with glitter specks. This glaze adds a subtle sparkle to your project. Glitter glaze enhances Stroke & Coats® colors, translucent and opaque underglazes, and may also be used with Series 2000 and other non-toxic glazes. Results will vary, depending on the underlying glaze. We recommend testing to determine best application for desired results.

Application:

  • Shake and stir well to keep glitter suspended in the glaze during use. Stir frequently during application to keep particles suspended in the glaze.

  • When applying over Stroke & Coats®, apply 1 coat of SG-301 over a 3 coat application of Stroke & Coat®.

  • Apply 2 coats of SG-301 over bisque.

  • Apply 2 coats over translucent and opaque underglazes.

  • Apply 1 coat over Series 2000™ glazes.

  • Watch the dispersal of the specks during application. Do not allow large build-ups or globs of specks in one area. Use the Soft Fan brush to evenly disperse the specks during application.

  • Brush on clear glaze in areas not covered with SG-301 Glitter Glaze if necessary.

  • Dipping in clear glaze is not recommended.

Firing:

  • Fire to shelf cone 06 (999°C). Fast firing during the bisque and glaze firing does not allow the glaze to properly develop. This will produce trapped gases and carbons in the glaze.

Notes:

  • Non-toxic

  • Food safe

  • Apply with a Soft Fan Brush, using the largest brush to cover the area

  • Keep glaze well mixed during use to keep glitter suspended in the glaze

  • Too heavy an application over dark colors "can" result in a milky finish

  • When used over SC-13 Grapel, SC-33 Fruit of the Vine, and UG-92 Lilac, underlying colors may lighten

  • Glitter glaze will be a sparkling silver metallic over dark colors and a reflective onyx sparkle over light colors

  • Clean Brush well after use with AC-525 Brush Cleaner. Glitter may adhere to the brush hairs if not cleaned well. Thoroughly inspect brush hairs after cleaning to ensure no glitter remains in the brush

  • Luster compatible

  • High Fire Results: Glitter turns brown

Snowfall

  • SG-302 Snowfall

Characteristics:

SG-302 Snowfall is designed to use for snow-like accents and will produce a fluffy, snow-like appearance. Snowfall can be used for designs and dimensional scenes. Snowfall maintains its position when used over products such as Stroke & Coats® and Series 2000™ glaze line. Snowfall can be used alone or for all over coverage as a background. Clear Brushing or Clear Dipping Glazes can be applied, if desired.

  • Mix well

  • Apply 2 or more coats over unfired glazes, shelf cone 04 bisque (1060°C), greenware or clay

  • Can be applied with a brush or sponge

  • For dimensional effects, apply using a Writer Tip

  • Fire to shelf cone 06 (999°C).

Notes:

  • Non-toxic

  • Food safe

  • May not be suitable for dinnerware due to surface characteristics

  • Color SG-302 Snowfall by applying 1 coat of your favorite Stroke & Coat over the Snowfall

  • Can be used with AC-222 Medium Writer Tip or AC-223 Large Writer Tip

  • A turquoise effect may result when applied over the following green glazes: S-2156 Evergreen Fir, S-2157 Holiday Green, S-2158 Green Sapphire, AG-226 Olive green, AG-400 Luster Green. Some other greens or copper based glazes may require testing
