  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-001 White to the outside of the vase. No need to paint the base.
  3. Cut out 3 flowers of any size and apply the paper of the vase with water. These will be used as a resist for the raffia so some of the flowers are in front of the grass. Blot with a paper towel to absorb any excess water.
  4. Outline the paper flowers with a pencil so you know what way you placed the flower on.
  5. Dip the raffia in both SC-39 Army Surplus and SC-52 Toad-ily Green; it’s fine if they mix together, just pull it though both at the same time. Once it is liberally coated with paint lay it across the vase vertically. You don’t want them to be perfectly straight, just let them lay naturally with curves and all. Lift it up and repeat several times until there’s not a lot of blank space on the front of the vase (about 10 times)
  6. Remove the paper flowers .
  7. Mix SC-40 Blueberry Hill and SC-74 Hot Tamale with gum separately to the consistency of peanut butter.
  8. Lay the silk screens on the spots where the paper was being sure that it is laying so that the grass does not get under the silk screen. You may need to scrape some of the glaze off if you can’t get it to fit right. With your finger, rub the gum mixture, alternating colors, over the silk screen being sure to not miss any spots and pull the silk screen off immediately.
  9. Then apply 4 more silk screens over the grass, still alternating colors.
  10. Apply 3 coats of FN-40 Blueberry Hill to the inside and the base of the vase. Allow to dry.
  11. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
