Join Alex Kraft for this hands-on workshop at Buckeye Ceramic Supply on Saturday, July 30th at 9am. Alex creates evocative surfaces through her use of brightly colored glazes and decorative techniques that include slip trailing, mishima, image transfer, non-fired techniques and other decorative treatments.
Participants will learn how to create surface designs in reverse on paper. You will transfer these hidden images to clay using a monoprinting technique. Attendees will incorporate the use of simple tarpaper templates to create hand-built forms. And you will leave with a small example that you will have created.

Mayco and BCS are honored to host sculptor Erika Sanada for her workshop on Saturday, July 30th at 1pm. Erika Sanada will discuss various influences and inspirations that have shaped her sometimes dark, always evocative work. She will demonstrate her sculpting techniques in an interactive session with attendees.
Erika was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. In 2009, she received her BA in Communications and Design at Nihon University College of Art in Tokyo. After graduation she worked as a commercial illustrator and a movie studio makeup artist, then moved to San Francisco to attend the Academy of Art University, where she received her MFA in sculpture.
Join Alex Kraft for this hands-on workshop at Gina DeSantis' Studio (in Lakewood, Ohio) on Sunday, July 31st at 9am. Alex creates evocative surfaces through her use of brightly colored glazes and decorative techniques that include slip trailing, mishima, image transfer, non-fired techniques and other decorative treatments.
Alex Kraft will be presenting at 9am, followed by Calvin Ma's Homebody Sculptures workshop at 1pm. Both, Alex and Calvin's, workshops will be held at Gina DeSantis' ceramic studio within the Screw Factory in Lakewood, Ohio (13000 Athens Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107 - Studio Ste C328, Classroom Ste C323).
Calvin Ma's work focuses on the narratives of his struggles with social anxiety and also examines the role of toys not only as art, but also as mechanisms to cope with his anxieties. During his workshop, Calvin will be demonstrating his process of constructing one of his Homebody heads involving silp casting, altering and texturing. Focused heavily on applying textures before the firing process, Calvin will present how he achieves different surface treatments using various types of tools. If time allows, Calvin will also demonstrate the underglazing techniques he uses to achieve the wood-like finishes.
Calvin Ma will be presenting at 1pm, following Alex Kraft's Enriching the Surface: Monoprinting workshop. Both, Alex and Calvin's, workshops will be held at Gina DeSantis's ceramic studio within the Screw Factory in Lakewood, Ohio (13000 Athens Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107 - Studio Ste C328, Classroom Ste C323).
