Wishing Leaves – Art Sparks

Instructions

Students will press a leaf into clay and inscribe a word, mantra, expression of gratitude, or meaningful quote at its center.

  • Roll out clay to about ¼” thick and place a real leaf (or template) on top, pressing gently to capture veins and texture. 
  • Cut around the leaf shape and smooth edges with a damp sponge or finger. 
  • Carve or stamp a word, mantra, expression of gratitude, or quote into the center. 
  • Optional: Make a small hole at the top for hanging. 
  • Let the piece dry slowly, then bisque fire. 
  • Glaze using washes, transparent glazes, or layered colors to highlight texture and words.
