Cone 06 chips have been fired flat in oxidation on white earthenware body.
Cone 6 chips have been fired flat in oxidation on white stoneware body.
Cone 10 chips have been fired flat in reduction on white stoneware body.
Snow Gems is a dimensional glaze that creates a white, textured surface with colored crystals. It is a non-moving glaze that can be applied using a brush or palette knife to create various textural effects and accents in your design work. Snow Gems have a wide firing range of cones 06-10 (999°C-1305°C / 1830°F-2381°F).
Enhance the decorated finish of your pieces with the texture and colorful crystals of Snow Gems.
Shake well and stir before and between each application to keep crystals suspended and to achieve even crystal coverage. Using a brush, apply 3 even coats to cone 04 earthenware or stoneware bisque, greenware, or clay. To tint, brush one coat of Stroke & Coat®, Foundations®, or E-Z Stroke® color of choice over the Snow Gems or mix small amounts into the product. Allow to dry between coats. Fire to shelf cone 06-10 (999°C-1305°C / 1830°F-2381°F) Snow Gems will perform the same at low, mid, and higher temperature firings. Testing is recommended.
Snow Gems has been certified as AP non-injurious to humans when used as intended under supervised conditions, approved for use by artists of all ages when used according to the manufacturer’s directions. These glazes are intended for decorative use. Not recommended for the food-contact or lip and rim areas of dinnerware due to surface texture and/or chemical durability. Finishedware producers bear responsibility for food-contact testing of ware sold into commerce.
Snow Gems can be used for designs or all-over coverage. Create variation by adding complimentary mass-tone colors.
To tint, brush one coat of Stroke & Coat®, Foundations®, or E-Z Stroke® color of choice over the Snow Gems or mix small amounts into the product, allowing you to further expand your creativity with the usage of this product.
Snow Gems can simulate more than just snow. Use a brush or a palette knife to build dimensions for ocean foam, clouds, and more.
Snow Gems deliver consistent performance from cone 06 to 10 (999°C-1305°C / 1830°F-2381°F). The base glaze remains stable and the crystal colors are bright. We recommend testing on your clay and in your kiln prior to use.
Much like SG302 Snowfall, Snow Gems will boil when applied on top of copper-based green pigments such as, FN-217 Evergreen Fire, FN-219 Lustre Green and FN-218 Green Sapphire. The fired Snow Gems may also become tinted (“bluing”) as the copper leaches into the glaze. Apply 2-3 coats of any of the copper green glazes leaving the area for the Snow Gems with out the green glaze and butt the Snow Gems up to the glaze.
