Whimsical Poppy Bowl

Instructions

  1. Trace the poppy flower design onto tissue paper using a pencil.
  2. Position the tissue paper on the bowl and transfer the design by tracing over the lines with a water-based marker. The moisture from the marker transfers the pattern onto the bowl, leaving a guide for painting.
  3. Thin each E-Z Stroke color with water until it reaches the consistency of ink.
  4. Using assorted round brushes, paint each flower:
    1. Fill some flowers with Passion Red (EZ075) and others with Poppy Orange (EZ058).
    2. Add a small accent in the center using the coordinating color to create subtle shading and dimension:
      1. Passion Red flowers → accent with Coral Red (EZ057).
      2. Poppy Orange flowers → accent with Orange (EZ034).
  5. Allow the EZ strokes to dry thoroughly.
  6. Using a #10 liner brush, add tiny lines with dots attached to the middle of each flower for extra detail and visual interest so they look more like poppies!
  7. Once all of the E-Z Stroke decoration is completely dry, apply 2 even coats of SW004 Zinc-Free Clear to the inside and outside of the bowl (avoiding the foot of the bowl. Stoneware pieces are not stilted when fired, so the foot needs to be free of glaze) using a Mayco #4 Fan Brush, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second.
  8. Fire to Cone 6 following your normal stoneware firing schedule.
