Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust. Do not oversaturate the bisque with water.
Using a #4 Soft Fan Brush (RB144) apply 2 coats of EG004 Dark Brown Engobe to the entire bottom of the gourd and 3” up the sides of the gourd.
Apply 3 coats of SW503 Orange Gloss around the top of the gourd, coming down about 2” under the stem.
On the bottom ½ of the vase, apply 3 coats of SW173 Amber Quartz in a random wavy pattern, bringing the glaze higher up in sections and lower in other. This will cover the engobe by about 1”.
With a #4 Soft Fan Brush apply 3 coats of SW146 Aurora Green layering over the over the Amber Quartz following the same random waves of lower and higher in sections.
Apply 2 coats of SW173 Amber Quartz to the stem of the gourd using a #4 Soft Fan Brush
With the #4 Soft Fan Brush, apply 2 coats of SW193 Ivy, just under the SW503 Orange Gloss, coming down 2” over the SW146 Aurora Green.
Do not wipe the engobe off the foot of the piece, since engobes do not stick to the kiln shelf.
