Flared Mug with Sparkle Black Engobe and Black Melt Gloop

Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust. 
  2. With a #4 Soft Fan Brush (RB144) apply 3 coats of SW181 Night Moth to the top 1/3rd of the mug along with the entire inside and handle.  
  3. Apply 2 coats of EG006 Sparkle Black Engobe to the bottom 2/3rd of the mug, including the bottom using a #4 Soft Fan Brush. 
  4. When “shine” is off the 2nd coat of the Sparkle black engobe, using your finger or a dry, soft cloth to buff the surface to reveal sparkle. 
  5. Using a detail bottle or small syringe, apply SW425 Black Melt Gloop to the mug where Night Moth and The Sparkle Black Engobe Meet. 

Additional Adaptations & Tips  

  • You do not need to wipe the Engobe from the bottom of the piece. Engobe does not stick to the kiln shelf
  • You do not need to stilt this piece, but the piece may be placed on a cookie or piece of soft brick, in case Gloop runs.
  • Fire to cone 6
