Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a pencil to trace the pattern onto the tray with AC230 Clay Carbon Paper. Cut the Tracing Paper into approximate 3” squares. Trace each individual strawberry onto one piece of Tracing Paper. Do not trace the foliage on the strawberries. Mark the squares with a number and correspond that number to the strawberry in the pattern. Use Scissors to cut out each individual strawberry as that will become your stencil.
  3. On a tile put out EZ018 Chartreuse, EZ026 Yellow Orange, EZ057 Coral Red and EZ075 Passion Red.
  4. Use a damp but not wet Silk Decorating Sponge to load one edge with EZ057 Coral Red. Sponge in the larger strawberries using your stencils marked according to your pattern. Tip the sponge edge with EZ075 Passion Red and sponge the darker color around the edge of the stencil to make the contour of the strawberry. On one of the strawberries, you can sponge a little bit of EZ026 Yellow Orange and or EZ018 Chartreuse to create a highlight in the center. For the smallest strawberry you can be light on the sponging of the colors. Make one lower part greener and redder along the top edge. You can leave a small portion plain.
  5. Thin some EZ055 Brick and EZ010 French Brown on the tile. Start with the EZ055 Brick and tip a damp sponge edge into the color. Pounce the sponge on a tile to blend the color into the sponge. Sponge along the entire edge of the plate keeping the color in the sponge along the rim of the plate. The color should be about 1” in width and fade out towards the center of the plate. Tip the sponge edge in EZ010 French Brown and sponge over the Brick color along the upper part of the rim. Color should appear darkest along the rim and becoming umbrae to nothing.
  6. On a tile mix EZ028 Leaf Green with equal parts of EZ013 White. Add a drop or two of water to thin. Use a CB404 #4 Pointed Round to block in the leaves in the pattern with 1-2 coats. Use AB704 #3 Round loaded with EZ028 Leaf Green to paint in the center and side veins in the leaves. Paint in the strawberry tops with the color. Outline the leaves and strawberry tops with
  7. EZ033 Ivy Green using CB110 #10/0 Liner. Paint in the stems and tendrils in the pattern with EZ033 Ivy Green.
  8. Load a CB404 #4 Pointed Round with water and tip the brush with thinned EZ024 Royal Blue Green and shade around the flower petals. Use the same method to shade around various leaves and strawberries where shadows would be between leave and berries.
  9. Fill in the centers of the flowers with 2 coats of EZ026 Yellow Orange using AB704 Round. Add a bit of EZ0330 Ivy Green to one side of the center over the EZ026 Yellow Orange.
  10. Use CB404 #4 Pointed Round loaded with thinned EZ055 Brick and shade around the center of the flower.
  11. Use FD258 Pure White French Dimensions to add highlights to the petals on the flowers. Keep this color bead fine but high.
  12. Use CB110 #10/0 Liner loaded with EZ010 French Brown to paint in the stamens around the flower center.
  13. Use SG407 Yellow Designer Liner to add some seeds to the strawberries. Keep them mostly to one side. Using CB110 #10/0 Liner to add a dot of EZ010 French Brown to the tops of each yellow seed.
  14. Apply 2-3 coats of SC041 Brown Cow to the back of the plate using CB604 #4 Soft Fan. Let dry.
  15. Apply 2-3 coats of FN239 Spiced Cream to the entire plate. Let dry.
