The work of Stacey and Corey Bechler is whimsical, colorful and fun! They use popular icons like fish, birds, dogs, and landscapes as their subject matter, but make them look even more whimsical, with elaborate colors, shapes, and textures, creating a powerful visual contrast within each piece.
Using clay and glaze as a base for each of their pieces, they will often add touches of copper, assorted wires, and driftwood found near their home on the beaches of Lake Michigan, inside the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park in Northern Michigan, to give their Mixed Media pieces a whimsical pop!
When asked about what Mayco glazes they use, the Bechlers rave about Mayco’s low-fire glazes.
“We use almost everything you make for low-fire and have a top 20 list of our favorite mid-fire glazes!” the Bechler’s said, “Our favorite color is probably your Blue Caprice Jungle Gem and our favorite product is your black French Dimension. We go through about 30 and 100 of each during a normal summer.”
Playing with mud has been the Bechler’s passion for several decades. They do roughly 15 art fairs around the Midwest during the summers. When they are not actively in the studio for some clay therapy, they are raising their 3 children, and Corey also teaches and coaches at the local High School!
Stacey and Corey have artwork in a couple of select galleries in the Midwest, but if you would like to see more of their work, give their Instagram a follow @BechlerPottery to see new work and up to date show schedules.
