- Begin by wiping down the bisque with a damp sponge.
- Apply three coats of SC016 Cotton Tail to the face of the tray and allow to dry.
- Transfer the pattern using clay carbon transfer paper and a pen. If the glaze is still a little damp, place the pattern directly on top of the glaze without carbon paper and lightly trace pattern with a pen. The lines from the pressure will be left over in the glaze.
- Using the script liner brush, apply a single coat of SC024 Dandelion to two or three of the lemons. Once the shine has disappeared, go in with the toothpick and scratch the line work on the lemons. Repeat this process until all lemons are finished.
- Using the script liner brush, apply one coat of SC012 Moody blue to one fish. When the glaze has lost it’s shine, take the toothpick and scratch in the design. Repeat this step until all fish are finished.
- Using the dotter sponge, apply single coat half dots of SC012 Moody Blue around the rim of the tray.
- Flip the tray over when the glazes are dry and apply three coats of SC012 Moody Blue to the back of the tray using the fan brush.
- Allow tray to dry, stilt, and fire to cone 06.
Additional Adaptations & Tips
- For best sgraffito results, allow the base glaze to dry and fully solidify overnight before applying the top color and scratching the designs. The super dry base layer will help keep you from scratching all the way through to the bisque.
- Leave the scratched up bits of glaze from the sgraffito alone until it’s fully dry and then wipe away with a soft brush.
