Silkscreen Vintage Nesting Bowls

Instructions

Large Vintage Nesting Bowl

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust. Do not oversaturate the bisque with water. 
  2. Apply 3 coats of SW172 Macadamia to the entire inside of the bowl using a #8 Soft Fan Brush. 
  3. Using a #4 Soft Fan Brush, apply 3 coats of SW172 Macadamia to the top of the outside of the decorative rim. 
  4. With a #8 Soft Fan Brush apply 3 coats of EG007 Terracotta Engobe to the outside of the bowl, under the rim including the bottom of the bowl. 
  5. On a plate, using a palate knife, mix SW508 Black Gloss with AC310 silkscreen medium. This should have a consistency of pancake batter. 
  6. Apply silkscreens to the outside of the bowl over the Terracotta Engobe with the Black Gloss/Silkscreen mixture. 
  7. Do not wipe Engobe off the bottom of the piece. Engobes do not stick to the kiln shelf 
  8. Do not stilt 
  9. Fire to cone 6 

Medium Vintage Nesting Bowl

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust. Do not oversaturate the bisque with water. 
  2. Apply 3 coats of SW514 Sage Gloss to the entire inside and ½ of the outside of the bowl using a #8 Fan Brush. 
  3. With a #8 Soft Fan Brush apply 3 coats of EG007 Terracotta Engobe to the outside bottom ½ of the bowl including the bottom of the bowl. 
  4. On a plate, using a palate knife, mix SW508 Black Gloss with AC310 silkscreen medium. This should have a consistency of pancake batter. 
  5. Apply silkscreens to the inside of the bowl over the over the Sage Gloss with the Black Gloss/Silkscreen mixture.   
  6. Do not wipe Engobe off the bottom of the piece. Engobes do not stick to the kiln shelf.
  7. Do not stilt.
  8. Fire to cone 6.

Small Vintage Nesting Bowl

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust. Do not oversaturate the bisque with water. 
  2. Apply 3 coats of SW172 Macadamia to the entire inside of the bowl using a #8 Soft Fan Brush. 
  3. Using a #4 Soft Fan Brush, apply 3 coats of SW172 Macadamia to the top of the outside edge of the bowl. 
  4. With a #4 Soft Fan Brush, apply 3 coats of SW514 Sage Gloss to the bottom decorative edge of the outside of the bowl. 
  5. With a #8 Soft Fan Brush apply 3 coats of EG007 Terracotta Engobe to the outside of the bowl, under the rim including the bottom of the bowl. 
  6. On a plate, using a palate knife, mix SW508 Black Gloss with AC310 silkscreen medium. This should have a consistency of pancake batter. 
  7. Apply silkscreens to the outside of the bowl over the Terracotta Engobe with the Black Gloss/Silkscreen mixture. 
  8. With a #8 Round Brush fill in parts of the silkscreen images with SW514 Sage Gloss. 
  9. Do not wipe Engobe off the bottom of the piece. Engobes do not stick to the kiln shelf.
  10. Do not stilt. 
  11. Fire to cone 6.
