Snowgems and Underglaze Vase

Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust. 
  2. Draw lines with a pencil to create 3 bands on the Curvy Vase. You want a band about 1” wide on each section of the vase (top, middle and bottom). 
  3. Using a RB106 #6 Script Liner Brush apply 3 coats of either UG219 Marine Blue or UG206 Fire Engine Red to the top and bottom of each section.  
  4. In 3 separate mixing containers mix a ratio of 1 parts Underglaze to 5 parts snow gems as follows: 
    1. 1 parts either UG219 Marine Blue or UG206 Fire Engine Red with 5 parts SG303 Citrus Snow Gem. 
    2. 1 parts either UG219 Marine Blue or UG206 Fire Engine Red with 5 parts SG304 Berry Snow Gem. 
    3. 1 parts either UG219 Marine Blue or UG206 Fire Engine Red with 5 parts SG305 Spearmint Snow Gem. 
  5. Using a RB106 #6 Script Liner Brush apply 3 coats of the Citrus Snow Gem mixture to the top section band.  
  6. Using a RB106 #6 Script Liner Brush apply 3 coats of the Berry Snow Gem mixture to the middle section band.  
  7. Using a RB106 #6 Script Liner Brush apply 3 coats of the Spearmint Snow Gem mixture to the bottom section band.  
  8. Fire to cone 6.  

Additional Adaptations & Tips  

  • For step #4 – you may increase or decrease the amount of Underglaze mixed into the Snowgems to create a softer or more vibrant color.
