Flux Swirl Soup Bowl

Designer: Carmen Allen

  1. Begin with soft fired stoneware bisque; moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Fill the writer bottle with SW-401 Light Flux.
  3. Place the bowl on a banding wheel and use the Flux to squeeze a swirl design up from the center of the bowl.
  4. Allow to dry and apply 2 coats of SW-190 Passion Flower tracing up the swirl, be sure to leave some open bisque if you want to create more variation.
  5. Apply 2 coats of SW-196 Sand Dollar to the entire inside of the bowl.
  6. Apply 3 coats of SW-134 Eggplant to the outside of the piece, avoiding the bottom.
  7. Use a clean sponge to wipe the excess glaze off of the foot.
  8. Fire to cone 5/6. (Sample was fired to cone 6).
