Designer: Larry Knight

  1. Roll clay to ¼” in thickness with rolling pin on canvas cloth.
  2. Cut a slab 8”by 12” rectangle.
  3. Bevel one 8” edge on top side, turn over and bevel remaining 8” side on opposite back side.
  4. If desired using rubber stamp create a random design on slab. I used a bee stamp.
  5. Score or scratch one of the beveled edges of slab and add slip over scoring.
  6. Attach the 8” edges together making sure seam is secure and stamped design is on the outside of cylinder.
  7. Cut a circle big enough to cover the bottom of cylinder.
  8. Score and slip the edge of circle and secure to bottom of cylinder.
  9. If desired flute top edge of cylinder.
  10. Cut 6 petals using supplied pattern for flower petal per flower.
  11. Compress or gently squeeze the edges of each petal to make the edge look thinner.
  12. Score the flat edge of each petal, add slip and begin to attach petals together using all 6 petals.
  13. For the stem make a cone shaped ball of clay and open larger end with your thumb to create a cupped end (pinch pot large enough to cover petal joints.
  14. Score the inside of the pinch pot, add slip and attach to back of flower petals covering the joints.
  15. In the narrow end of stem put a hole for the rod to be inserted in after completion.
  16. For the flower center form a small cup out of a small ball of clay and add a small ball of clay with slip inside of the cup.
  17. Attach the bowl to the flower center on front of petals.
  18. Let clay items dry.
  19. When dry smooth any imperfections with a sponge and water gently.
